Jurassic World 3 is bringing back a couple of key, recent cast members from the franchise. Both Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith. Who debuted in last year’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, are set to come back for another round of dino-filled shenanigans. Director Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first entry in the series, is returning to the director’s chair. He’s set to bring back characters from seemingly every era of the franchise.
According to a new report, Justice Smith as Franklin and Daniella Pineda as Zia will both return. Other confirmed returning cast members include Chris Pratt as Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire. The major hook so far is that the original trio from Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm. Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler and Sam Neill as Alan Grant are all reuniting on screen for the first time since the original movie. New cast members that have been added so far include Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise. But details on their characters have yet to be revealed.
Franklin and Zia were both members of the Dinosaur Protection Agency, which was headed up by Claire. They played key parts in getting the dinosaurs off of Isla Nublar before it was destroyed by the volcanic eruption in Fallen Kingdom. They also witnessed the escape of the creatures from Lockwood Manor. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why they would factor into the next installment. Plot details largely remain under wraps, but we’ll be dealing with the existence of dinosaurs out in the real world. This was glimpsed in the recently released live-action short, Battle at Big Rock, which was also directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Colin Trevorrow directed the first Jurassic World but took a step back and handed over the reins to J.A. Bayona for Fallen Kingdom. At the time, Trevorrow was set to direct Star Wars Episode IX for Lucasfilm. Which we now know as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, he parted ways with Lucasfilm over creative differences. Ultimately paving the way for him to return to round out the trilogy. Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay for the movie with franchise newcomer Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising). Steven Spielberg is on board as a producer.
To date, the Jurassic Park franchise has grossed $5.2 billion at the global box office. After taking a huge 14-year break following the disappointment of Jurassic Park III. Jurassic World successfully reinvigorated the series when it hit theaters in 2015, bringing in a tremendous $1.6 billion worldwide. Fallen Kingdom, though not nearly as well embraced by the critical community, was also a huge success, taking in $1.3 billion, paving the way for at least one more entry. Jurassic World 3 is set to hit theaters on June 11, 2021. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as further details on the project are made available. This news comes to us via Collider.
